Betting on Herself: Alex Brown

May 5, 2026

Alex Brown has a spark no one can deny. With a warm smile and fierce competitiveness, Brown is a player audiences don’t want to miss. For this Kansas City Diamonds infielder, softball has never been just about performance. It’s about joy, resilience and a deep-rooted love for a game that's been part of her since the very beginning.

“Playing softball feels like the best thing in the world,” Brown said. “Getting a hit is the most euphoric feeling I’ve ever felt.”

Her love for the game started early. Growing up in Springfield, Georgia, Brown was surrounded by the thrill this game offers. Her father coached and played, and her older brother followed the same path, often bringing her along to games where she spent her childhood running around the fields.

“I loved growing up in that environment,” Brown said. “As I got older, my dad and brother have helped me a lot.”

Her brother helped shape her swing, while her dad helped guide her development, always committed to harnessing her full potential. This constant support system still grounds her today.

“The most important thing in my life is definitely my family,” Brown said. “My parents are always the ones to tell me the hard things when I need to hear it or lift me up when I’m feeling down.”

That support extends beyond her household. Whether it’s her family or former teammates, Brown leans on the people around her through every high and low.

“I’ve learned to rely on my past teammates because they’ve been through the same thing that I’m going through,” Brown said.

Her journey hasn't been without adversity. After her freshman season in college, Brown struggled with her performance and her passion for the game.

“It was a big turning point for me, just turning my career in the right direction,” Brown said.

During this time, she questioned whether she should continue playing. She made a choice. Instead of walking away, she bet on herself. Brown spent the offseason training, refocusing on why she plays and rediscovering the joy that first drew her to softball.

“There hasn’t been anything else in the world that has made me feel that way,” Brown said. “I feel the happiest whenever I have a softball in my hand.”

This renewed perspective changed everything. Over the next few years, Brown grew into her game, eventually transferring to Clemson where she found both success and a sense of belonging.

“Clemson feels like one big family,” Brown said. “Even when I transferred in, they accepted me with open arms.”

Her journey through college softball and beyond has taken her across the country. From North Carolina to Clemson, and eventually into professional play with the New York Rise and international competition with the U.S. Virgin Islands National Team. Along the way, she embraced the fast-paced, high-pressure nature of the sport.

“You never know what’s going to happen in a game,” Brown said. “You can’t give up until the very last out.”

Now, she brings that mindset to the KC Diamonds. After facing the Diamonds as an opponent when she played for the Rise, she knew it was a place she wanted to be.

“I remember how I felt last year when I was in Kansas City and I was like I can definitely play here,” Brown said. “This seems like a fun place to play softball.”

As an infielder, Brown thrives in the middle of the action. Whether at shortstop or third base, she embraces the opportunity to stay engaged in every play while supporting her teammates.

“I’m very competitive so I might come off very serious on the field,” Brown said. “But I want them to see the celebrations too.”

Brown’s balance between intensity and joy defines who she is as a player. She is incredibly hard-working, but wants younger players to see that this game is meant to be fun.

“I just want to make the little kids in my hometown proud because I was once in their shoes,” Brown said. “I’m so excited for little kids to come to our games and say ‘I want to be like them someday.’”

She understands the responsibility that comes with being a professional athlete, especially in a growing league where visibility matters. With younger players looking up to her, she wants to be a good role model for future generations.

Off the field, Brown balances a demanding schedule as a graduate assistant at Florida Atlantic while pursuing her master’s degree in business administration. Despite the challenges, she remains grounded by the people and places that shaped her.

“All of that brings me back to why I’m doing all of this,” Brown said. “When I see the little girls I give lessons to back home, I’m reminded of why I’m doing all of these hard things—to show that they can do it too.”

As she begins her journey in Kansas City, Brown is eager to connect with the community and continue growing her game. Her spark of passion for softball is everlasting.

“I want to be remembered as somebody who just loved the game and gave the game so much,” Brown said.

Even though Brown isn’t experienced in Midwest culture, she is ready to take the reins on showing up and showing out for the Kansas City community. In any way that she can, she will give 100 percent of herself, on and off the field.

“I want to be involved as much as I can,” Brown said. “I’m so excited to meet all the fans and have everyone out at the games.”

This Diamond is ready to shine.
