KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Kansas City Diamonds have announced a new partnership with HopeKids Kansas City, an organization that provides ongoing events, activities, and a unique support community for families who have a child with cancer or some other life-threatening medical condition.
HopeKids Kansas City serves more than 500 children across the greater Kansas City region, and through this collaboration, the Diamonds will help create uplifting experiences that give these children and their families something to look forward to.
The partnership reflects the Diamonds’ mission to be more than just a softball organization by using their platform to make a meaningful difference in the community.
“This organization has always been about more than the game,” Jeremy McDowell said. “We want to inspire a community and use our platform to make a difference in the lives of others.”
Leaders from HopeKids say the partnership will expand opportunities for families to create lasting memories and feel supported.
“This partnership will give the kids we serve more chances to simply be kids,” HopeKids Kansas City Executive Director Jade Van Slyke said. “It gives them a chance to have fun and focus on the excitement ahead, instead of dwelling on their diagnosis."
As part of the partnership, the Diamonds will host special events for HopeKids families, featuring a “Diamond for a Day” experience, in-game roles, and immersive game-day activities.
The collaboration will not only provide more events for HopeKids families to attend, but it will also generate greater awareness throughout the Kansas City community about the role HopeKids plays in supporting children with life-threatening medical conditions.
“This partnership brings people together around a shared purpose of creating hope.” Van Slyke said. “It strengthens our ability to serve more families and surround them with a community that truly cares and walks alongside them every step of the way.”
The initiative highlights the Diamonds’ continued commitment to community engagement and using sport as a vehicle for impact beyond the field.
