The Heart Behind the Plate: Leah Boggs

April 23, 2026

Leah Boggs isn’t just a catcher, she’s a fierce competitor, driven athlete, and a constant source of energy both on and off the field.

On the field, Boggs brings an electric intensity, commanding the game from behind the plate. But at the core of her softball journey is something deeper that has shaped her career: relationships.

“My favorite part about softball is cultivating relationships,” Boggs said. “Being able to network and meet people from playing softball have given me the opportunity to play for the Diamonds.”

Boggs grew up playing a variety of sports, but softball was a talent she never let go of. Encouraged by her family, especially her dad who coached her teams, she continued pushing towards her full potential. After playing in nearly every position on the field, she found her place behind the plate.

“I just fell in love with softball,” Boggs said. “I build relationships really well, so being able to work with pitchers and read people came naturally.”

Behind the plate, she found more than just a position, but her purpose.

“It's the best feeling in the world,” Boggs said. “Everything else just disappears once you're in between the lines. Everything that bothers me leaves my body.”

During her college career at the University of Virginia, Boggs experienced both the highs and lows of the program, never losing her passionate spirit. The experience taught her lessons she still carries today, as the team transformed from winning just a handful of games to becoming one of the top teams in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

“We wanted to get the best out of each other,” Boggs said. “That’s how we went from being one of the worst teams in the ACC to being one of the best.”

After a difficult game at Virginia, Boggs expected to walk away unnoticed. Instead, she was met with a long line of young fans waiting for autographs. The girls were smiling, excited, and completely unfazed by any mistakes in her performance.

“They were really inspired that I was even standing on that field,” Boggs said. “It made me realize how big of an impact we have on the younger generations, just by showing up.”

While not everything goes according to plan, Boggs remains grounded in authenticity, always staying true to who she is. Her success isn't measured in stats alone, but in the impact she has on others.

“Even if I’m having a bad game, I’m thinking about how I can uplift the people around me,” Boggs said. “If I can pour into them, that makes me feel better than a single hit that day would.”

Boggs’s selfless mindset overflows into every part of her life. After college when she wasn’t sure what came next, Boggs created her own path. She spent time in Florida playing in a summer league, coaching and working with young children, finding her passion for teaching and development.

“I love working with the youth,” Boggs said. “I just love what it takes to teach someone how to grow into a better person.”

After coaching for a time, Boggs realized something was missing in her life, which led her to Kansas City.

“I always have the chance to pick up coaching,” Boggs said. “I don’t always have the chance to pick up a bat. While I have the opportunity to, I’m going to go all in on it.”

After hearing about the opportunity with the Diamonds, Boggs took a chance, traveling to compete and introduce her skills. Now, she’s part of something bigger than herself.

“The Diamonds represent more than just pro softball, but the growth of the game,” she said. “This team builds opportunities for girls who aren’t done playing.”

Excitement builds as the season approaches. With a championship to chase, Boggs and her teammates train with the same confidence and drive she brings every day.

“The people make the place,” Boggs said. “This team is filled with high-level competitors who are good people and players.”

Boggs brings that same energy every time she steps between the lines, a mix of passion, authenticity and confidence that's impossible to ignore.

“I’m authentic. I play as myself and I’m very passionate,” she said. “You can tell that I leave everything out on the field and I love the people I play with.”

Off the field, Boggs enjoys reading and a good meal, preferably steak with garlic parmesan fries. While she continues to develop her cooking skills, steak remains a staple.

Boggs is the type of person and player to always embrace who she is and inspire others to do the same.

“I want people to feel like they can be passionate and loud and excited on the field,” Boggs said. “I wear pink gear and bows in my hair, but I’m also the first person to scream in your face and be aggressive. I want little girls to know that they can be both.”

Boggs also contributes behind the scenes, assisting with the Diamonds’ social media and organizational efforts, gaining insight into what it takes to run a successful team.

“Being on a different side of the game, rather than just in between the lines gives you a better understanding of the game,” Boggs said. “I am more grateful for everything I've had in the past that has prepared me if I wanted to go back into coaching.”

Her life is not only rooted in being a genuine teammate and fierce competitor, but also in her faith.

“You see a flower, but God has a whole bouquet for you to learn something new or go in a different direction with your life,” Boggs said.

With a strong support system and a series of games waiting to be played, Boggs is focused not solely on performance, but on impact. Whether she’s behind the plate, cultivating valuable relationships with teammates, or inspiring the next generation, she’s doing exactly what she was meant to do.

Leah Boggs is officially ready to enter her Diamond era.
